Lizzy Mctizzy and the Busy Dizzy Day

Will a lost shoe keep Lizzy McTizzy from a birthday party? Not for want of effort on her part, that's for sure. In rollicking, rhyming verse that scans well, Weeks tells the tale of the girl's epic search: "One blue shoe is one too few. / To go to the party she has to have two." Under a chair, beneath the sofa, among some underwear, up on a shelf, in the bathtub, on the chandelier, in the dusty attic and the empty mailboxthese are just a few of the places Lizzy, accompanied by her black-and-white cat, searches. "She looks in the crooks, in the crannies and nooks, / but there isn't a shoe in the places she looks." In the end, Lizzy's solution is not only good problem-solving, but it suits the redhead's personal style to a T, and she makes it to the party in time for cake. Wildish's digital illustrations are bright and cheerful and change perspective based on where Lizzy is searching. Plenty of humorous details will keep readers in stitches. The characters sport small torsos, superskinny limbs, and oversized heads with tiny, dot eyes. Lizzy and her family are white; the partygoers are racially diverse. Readers will have a ready solution next time they are missing a shoe of their ownand some ideas as to where to search for it. (Picture book. 4-8) Copyright Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
