Can Father Tim save an abandoned mountaintop church? Is this a "Mitford Years" novel? Karon wraps up her popular series with this work-but look for a new series starring Father Tim. With a five-city tour. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.

The Mitford saga is concluded in the generally predictable Light from Heaven. Father Tim and his wife, Cynthia, retire to housesit an old country farm, but the quiet life is short-lived when Father Tim is assigned to get the abandoned Holy Trinity Church up and running again. He also helps folks like Louella, who needs him to retrieve her inheritance hidden in a car, and Dovey, who has some medical problems. Scripture, hymns, and prayers are interspersed in a way that at times seems more preachy than a demonstration of faith in action. Character development is a bit lax, maybe because this title is the conclusion of the series. Still, the story is a nice escape and well read by John McDonough. Recommended for larger collections.--Denise A. Garofalo, Astor Home for Children, Rhinebeck, NY (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
